How to solve “Telemetry in Progress” problem?

Note: this article does not apply on Vending on Track's product lines.

A vending machine has to perform a bunch of initialization steps to make sure it’s in working condition after powering on. If your telemetry device is stuck at “Telemetry in Progress”, it may be a sign that it will stop working soon.

This is the vending machine starting procedure,

  1. When Vending Machine boots, the controller (VMC, Vending Machine Controller) self-tests all components

  2. It tests through each peripheral, checks if it has certain peripherals, like coin mech, note reader, credit card reader, etc

  3. The telemetry device establishes a data link from the telemetry device to the cloud server. This is using the communication carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T, Telstra, Vodafone, Optus, etc, etc).

Normal vending machine telemetry initialization sequence should be,

  1. Initializing, please wait

  2. VMC not online

  3. Switch connection succeeded

  4. Telemetry in progress

  5. Telemetry session success

  6. Telemetry session failed

Some telemetry devices may be stuck at "Telemetry in progress". You can follow the following procedure to rule out a few possibilities,

  • SIM card is working - put the sim card in a mobile phone, check if the network, try to visit Google or Facebook on mobile without WiFi

  • Carrier coverage issue - check the signal strength on your mobile at the site

  • if you have tried both, it may be a compatibility issue between telemetry device and the vending machine. In this case, try Vending on Track's telemetry device.
